Which Font License Do I Need? A Simple Guide
Buying a font is easy. Picking the right license is where most people pause. This guide explains every Creavibes Design license in plain words, so you can buy once and use your font with confidence.
The short answer
Most people need the Desktop License ($12). It covers logos, branding, printed materials, packaging and social media images, and lets you sell up to 2,000 physical products made with the font.
You only need something bigger if your project includes video, digital products for sale, a website, a registered trademark, an app, or broadcast.
Answer these questions in order
Start at the top. Your first “yes” is your license.
- Will the font be built into an app, game or software? Choose the App & Game License ($395).
- Will it appear in TV, film, streaming or cinema? Choose the Broadcast License ($595).
- Is it only for a website, nothing else? Choose the Web Font License ($21).
- Do you want to register a logo as a trademark, sell more than 10,000 products, or use the font on a website and in your designs? Choose the Extended License ($149).
- Will you make videos, ads, templates or e-books for sale? Choose the Creator License ($39).
- None of the above? The Desktop License ($12) is all you need.
The four everyday licenses
Desktop License – $12
For designers and small businesses. Install on up to 3 computers and use the font in logos, branding, print, packaging and static social media images. Sell up to 2,000 physical products.
Creator License – $39
Everything in Desktop, on up to 5 computers, plus YouTube and social media videos, online video ads, e-books and digital products for sale, such as Canva or Templett templates. Sell up to 10,000 physical products. This is the right choice for content creators and template sellers.
Web Font License – $21
Embed the font on one website (one domain) with up to 100,000 page views per month. It is for web use only, so add a Desktop License if you also design with the font on your computer.
Extended License – $149
Everything in Creator, on up to 10 computers, plus one website with up to 500,000 page views per month, unlimited physical products, and the right to register logos made with the font as trademarks.
Licenses for bigger projects
- App & Game ($395): embed the font in one app, game or software, with unlimited downloads. Also needed for tools that let users type with the font, like logo makers.
- Broadcast ($595): TV, film, streaming platforms, cinema and broadcast ads.
- Corporate ($1299): every use, unlimited, for one company and all of its brands.
Common questions
Can I use the font for a client project?
Yes. Buy the license in your client’s name, then deliver the work. One license covers one owner.
What if my project grows?
Upgrade anytime by paying only the difference between your license and the new one. Just contact us with your order number.
What is never allowed?
Selling, sharing or uploading the font files, or modifying the font and reselling it as your own.
