How to Choose a Font for Your Logo
Your logo is often the first thing people see, and the font carries much of its personality. Here is a simple way to choose a logo font that fits your brand, stays readable and is safe to use.
1. Start with three words about your brand
Write down three words that describe how your brand should feel, for example friendly, playful, handmade or elegant, premium, calm. Every font you consider should match at least two of them.
2. Match the font style to that feeling
- Bold display fonts feel loud, fun and confident. Good for food, kids, streetwear and events. Try Meldine or Molekt.
- Script and signature fonts feel personal and elegant. Good for beauty, weddings, photographers and boutiques. Try Richload or Onlytime.
- Serif fonts feel established, premium and editorial. Good for fashion, jewellery and hospitality. Try Morhena or Giomori.
- Sans serif fonts feel modern and straightforward. Good for tech, studios and minimal brands. Try Phodest or Karobu.
3. Test it with your real name
A font that looks great in a preview can look awkward with your actual letters. Type your brand name in the type tester on each font page and look for odd letter pairs, unclear shapes or uneven spacing.
4. Check it small and large
Your logo will appear on a phone screen, a profile picture and maybe a shop sign. Shrink it to the size of an app icon. If you can still read it, it works. Very thin scripts and detailed display fonts may need a simpler version for small sizes.
5. Keep it simple
Use one font for the logo, two at most. Adjust letter spacing slightly and try both all caps and lowercase before you decide.
6. Get the right license
Using a font in a logo is covered by the Desktop License ($12). If you plan to register your logo as a trademark, you need the Extended License ($149) or higher. The trademark protects your logo, not the font itself.
Read the full license guide or ask us if you are not sure.
